CUPERTINO – Today, Meg Whitman announced the endorsement of the California Peace Officers’ Association, one of the state’s most influential law enforcement advocacy groups. The CPOA represents more than 3,400 law enforcement officers working in local, state and federal agencies throughout the state.

“I am proud to have earned the endorsement of the CPOA. I have the deepest respect for California law enforcement officers and the sacrifices they make every day. For years, the CPOA and its members have led the fight to keep Californians safe,” Whitman said.

“Protecting the safety of Californians is the first duty of government and should never be sacrificed because of budget constraints. It’s an act of supreme negligence that lawmakers in Sacramento have mismanaged the budget to the point that public safety is threatened. With the CPOA on my side, I will strongly defend and enforce our state’s sentencing and public safety laws. I won’t balance the budget by raiding law enforcement resources. We cannot begin to grow our economy or improve our quality of life without strong, safe communities. Together, we will work for an even safer California.”

“It’s clear to us at the CPOA that Sacramento is in need of a new kind of leadership. We need a leader with proven skills to create jobs, balance complex budgets and set priorities for spending taxpayers’ dollars wisely. Meg will stand up for law enforcement when Sacramento politicians seek to raid public safety budgets,” CPOA Immediate Past President and Sacramento County Sheriff John McGinness said. “Meg has a plan to restore the economy and will bring common sense decision-making to Sacramento. She can be trusted to deliver what she promises and to get it done.”

The CPOA’s mission is:

“The California Peace Officers’ Association is committed to developing progressive leadership for the California law enforcement community. This will be accomplished by organizational networking, professional development, and public policy advocacy.”
